March 12th, 2024 — Jim Henderson officially declared his intention to run for State Representative in District 26, Position 1, currently held by Representative Spencer Hutchins, who has announced he will not be seeking re-election. This announcement comes in the wake of Jim surviving a violent assault, while working in Olympia. On February 8^th, two armed intruders broke into Jim’s workplace and held him at gunpoint, beat him, robbed him, and shot at him. 

“Having survived a life-threatening attack, I have witnessed firsthand the consequences of unbalanced political power and its impacts on public safety.”  Henderson stated, “We can no longer wait to prioritize the safety and security of people in our state.”

Representative Michelle Caldier says, “I have personally worked with Jim in Olympia and have witnessed his work ethic and tenacity. Jim is well-respected by his colleagues and will be a true asset to the district.” 

Henderson’s candidacy is a response to the urgent need for policies that prioritize public safety, promote economic prosperity, and address the critical economic challenges of rising prices, housing supply and aging transportation infrastructure.

Jim serves on the boards of both Next Chapter and St. Vincent de Paul. In his role with Next Chapter, Jim is deeply involved in supporting mothers who are at risk of becoming unhoused by providing them with the necessary resources and housing. His Catholic faith continues to be an important guide in Jim’s life and contributes to his passion for community service. Jim’s unwavering dedication to public service reflects his belief in collective action to create meaningful change.

Henderson, a Republican, lives in Gig Harbor with his two sons, Ethan and Jacob. He has been a small business owner for 24 years and advocates on fair housing and housing policies.
